Keeping your valuables in their place … Boston Pack and Ship uses foam-in-place solutions to secure delicate items for shipping

In Boston Pack and Ship’s business, the definition of irony is shipping a package out of state, even out of the country and expecting what’s in the package to never move. Yet that’s exactly what does and does not happen when Boston Pack and Ship employs its foam-in-place technology to pack computers and electronic equipment and other fragile items.

Foam-in-place technology works by first protecting the item you’re shipping with a high-strength film that covers whatever it is you’re shipping. That item is then almost literally locked in place with a foam spray, which essentially creates a customized encasing that prevents movement of any kind.

“Foam-in-place technology is generally used by manufacturers to ship out their company’s products and is not usually available on a retail basis. Yet with all the companies shipping computer equipment and other stuff back and forth between offices, there’s a genuine need for this technology,” said Joe Fell, co-owner of Boston Pack and Ship. “As a small load specialist that ships out-of-state and internationally, your only true measuring stick is whether the shipment gets there in good shape. Using the foam-in-place technology is about as close to a guarantee as we can offer.”

Reuse the foam encasing to re-ship items or similarly shaped pieces

An additional benefit of this technology is that you can reuse the foam encasing to re-ship that item or a similarly shaped piece. That can be particularly valuable when sending  computers or other delicate electronic pieces out for repair, giving the service people a secure encasing for the return shipment.

As a small load specialist, Boston Pack and Ship specializes in shipments of less than 1,000 pounds—parameters that can cover a lot of different items. In addition to using foam-in-place technology, Boston Pack and Ship creates customized double wall corrugated cardboard packaging and customized wood crates for its retail and corporate customers. By tailoring these containers exactly to the dimensions of the shipment, they can dramatically reduce the possibility of damage during shipping—something of critical importance when transporting other delicate items like artwork and family heirlooms.

Boston Pack and Ship offers multiple U.S. shipping options including ground, air, delivery to a terminal for pickup or inside delivery. International options include air or ocean with door-to-door or door-to-port delivery. Full declared value is available on both domestic and international shipments. Pick-up of items to be packed and shipped for delivery is made by appointment.

"On behalf of myself and the entire EDP staff I just wanted to say thank you very much for all of your help last week. In a program where many things can seem hectic it was great working with you and knowing that we wouldn’t have to worry about shipping. It was a pleasure working with you and our program was a great success due to your help.

I look forward to working with you again for future programs and again, thank you very much."
