“You go into a relationship hoping for happily ever after, but things don’t always work out like that,” Lauren said with a sad smile. “When it was clear that things weren’t going to work out, I looked for a moving company that could make my departure as simple and stress free as possible.”
“In our case, children are involved,” Lauren explained. “That meant I couldn’t move too far. Knowing I was staying in the neighborhood, I thought about doing everything on my own – for about five minutes. Carrying heavy boxes and the pieces of furniture I was bringing was not a one-person job – and if you’ve ever seen me drive, you know why I wasn’t going to even consider taking a rental truck through Boston. I have enough going on right now. I don’t need to get into an accident!”
After a breakup, finances can be tight. “Let’s just say I didn’t have a lot of extra money available at that time,” Lauren said. “Finding a small load moving company in Boston that doesn’t charge a minimum load fee meant I saved money.” Other ways that Lauren saved money on her move included being strategic about what she chose to bring with her. “There were things I hated to leave behind, but knowing that this next address is certainly not my forever home, and that I’d need to move again fairly shortly meant I had to be practical.” She also scheduled her move for the middle of the month, rather than the busy peak periods at the beginning and end of the month. “That was a coincidence, actually, but it worked out in my favor.”
“The other reason I chose to work with a professional Boston moving company rather than relying on my family and friends to help with this move is that my family and friends are also my exes’ family and friends,” Lauren said. “Why put them in an awkward position? The movers were totally professional. They came in, did the job, nothing was uncomfortable, and even though I hated to move out, it happened efficiently and I appreciated that.”
