What’s the Best Way to Ship A Computer?

December 11, 2020 by admin

If you’ve ever watched a delivery driver casually toss a box onto a porch from a distance, you may cringe at the idea of shipping a computer. We all love our tech, but there’s no doubt that laptops, tablets, gaming consoles, and other electronics are both fragile and expensive. This makes shipping them a challenge.

Luckily, we have the insiders at Boston’s best shipping store available to give us tips on how to ship a computer safely and affordably. To make life super simple and stress free, you can have them ship a computer for you, but if you insist on the DIY approach, here’s what you need to know:

Original packaging is a good start. Lots of tech-loving individuals know that you should always, always, always keep the original boxes your items came in. These boxes often have the essential support structures necessary to protect computers and other high tech items while they’re being shipped. After repacking your computer, double box it in a new cardboard shipping boxes reinforced with high density foam and other protective packing materials.

If you don’t have the original packing materials available, attempt to recreate the original packing using a new, appropriately sized cardboard shipping carton and packing materials, and then pack that box inside another, slightly larger shipping box. This provides the maximum amount of protection for your computer or other high tech item.

Make sure your box is taped completely and securely. Do not skimp on tape – you need enough to do the job – but do not go overboard to such a degree that your package can’t be processed by the delivery company.

When it comes time to ship your computer, you will want to know how much shipping a computer costs. The fact is that this is a question that requires knowing a number of variables, including how heavy is the package, where is it going, and how rapidly do you need it to get there. You have different delivery options available to you, including USPS, UPS, FedEx and more. A Boston shipping store would be able to help you determine the most cost-effective shipping option quickly, but on your own, you can visit each service’s website to determine pricing options. Don’t forget to check into insurance!

"I used Boston Pack & Ship to send an antique drop-leaf table that had been my mother's and four Windsor chairs that my father had made, an antique blanket chest and two large framed (with glass) photographs. I had no special instructions, but all the items had huge sentimental value - they were all special to me and were now being sent to our oldest son who had just bought his first home. So it was important that they arrive safely. Both Bill and Joe were very friendly, up front with the fees and service provided and the process went just as they described. I might not have thought any more about it, but when the furniture arrived, our son made a point of calling and saying how nice the movers had been and said that I should feel comfortable recommending them to anybody in need of their services."
