Class is out and it’s time to enjoy the summer. If you’re taking the smart route, you’re not going to pay expensive Boston rents just to house your stuff – you’ll stow it in a safe secure Boston student summer storage facility. Summer storage is the ideal way to deal with your out of season clothing, sports gear, books, furniture and the like. That being said, there are some things that can’t go in your storage unit. Be aware and find somewhere else to safely stow:
Your Pets
This shouldn’t even be an issue, but it crops up more often than you think. Student summer storage is not the place to put your dog, cat, goldfish, birds, lizard or any other living creature. Pets need food, water, and care – none of which is available via a storage unit. If you need a place for your animal to be when you’re on the road, look for a boarding kennel, pet sitter service, or similar facility.
Dangerous Chemicals
Before you skip over this and say ‘doesn’t apply!’ STOP! Art students, paints, turpentine, and other common art supplies qualify as dangerous chemicals. So do many common cleansers, automotive supplies like motor oil and antifreeze, and more. When in doubt, ask your student summer storage facility manager: they’ll know better than anyone what’s acceptable and what’s not. Tires are often prohibited – be aware!
Space Heaters, Camp Stoves & Generators, Flammable Liquids
Boston winters can be chilly, and sometimes students have their own space heaters to help keep toasty warm. Space heaters that run on liquid fuel, such as kerosene, are generally prohibited from storage facilities. The same is true for camping equipment, such as stoves and generators. Flammable liquids are a no-go, as are the containers for these liquids.
Safety First!
As you can see, most of the rules for what can be stored in Boston student summer storage focus on keeping the facility safe for everyone. Storage is the ideal solution for most of what the typical student owns, and, when you work with the right Boston moving company, can be delivered to your new address when classes start again – very convenient!
