Do you have a desktop computer that you need to ship? Here are some useful tips you can use to ensure your computer arrives at its destination safely.
Important Step One: Before you do anything else, back up the data you need and want to keep from this computer to another location, preferably cloud-based. That way, in the event of an accident or other unforeseen event, all you’re losing is your hardware – which is still bad, and it’s part of why we help all of our customers select the right shipping insurance for their needs, but it’s better than losing critical data forever.
Be Aware: If you’re the type of person who tears your computers apart on the regular, you may want to consider disassembling your computer prior to packing it for shipping. This is often the recommendation for highly customized computers, as it allows for greater protection of individual components.
If you have the original packing materials your computer came in, use those to pack your computer for shipping. Make sure to use any styrofoam, inserts, or other original packing materials you may have kept, and be aware that you need to provide styrofoam, inserts or other packing materials if you did not keep them with the box. As Boston’s leading shipping service, we keep a wide variety of packing materials in stock at all times, so you can always provide you with what you need.
Box your monitor separately, using appropriate packing materials. If you do not have the original box, invest in a new cardboard shipping box. You want a strong shipping carton because it is not unheard of for items to be stacked on top of monitors inside of freight carriers’ trucks. Don’t trust your monitor to a recycled box!
