MA Freight Shipping for Small Manufacturers and Businesses

August 26, 2016 by admin

“We’ve been in business for a while now, but until this point, all of our orders were on the smaller side.” Steven is beaming. The founder and CEO of a small manufacturing firm recently received their first order from a major retailer – an order so large he needed to work with a freight shipping carrier.

Once upon a time, freight shipping meant your products were going to be loaded on a cargo ship. Today however, freight shipping can involve truck and aircraft transport. Choosing what type of freight shipping is right for your business depends on where your shipment needs to go – if you’re sending products from Boston to Europe, a truck won’t take you too far and you’ll have to opt for a ship or air freight. Speed is another consideration, as is budget. Air freight is the fastest, but it is also the most expensive option.

Successful freight shipping begins with proper packing. Your products or merchandise must be packaged in a way that protects them from the rigors of shipping while also presenting them in an attractive way for your customers. If your packaging has stood up well to smaller-scale distribution, talk to your MA freight shipping company about what steps will be needed to scale up effectively. The choice of shipping boxes for freight shipping is especially important: if there was ever a time you need truly sturdy, strong shipping boxes, it’s when they’re going to be shipped freight.

Talk to your MA freight shipper about your timeline. We’re used to an on-demand, instant gratification world, but freight shipping goes at its own pace. Every effort is made to make timely deliveries, but delays do happen. Whenever possible, scheduling to account for unforeseen events is a good idea. Freight tracking options have expanded exponentially and take a lot of anxiety out of the process – you know where your cargo is all the time!

"I'm in the military and I took an assignment in Texas to be closer to family in a town outside of Houston. That meant getting about 17 boxes of stuff—ranging from household goods to clothing—from my home in Marston Mills, Massachusetts to Missouri City, Texas. Working with Boston Pack and Ship was a pleasure. They were very helpful and answered all my questions. On the day of pickup, they were in and out within 15 minutes. I had regular updates from Bill Yankee and his staff. In fact, my stuff arrived a day early! Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I didn't have to worry about a thing."
