Whether you’re sending a fragile gift to a friend or have a business that depends on getting customers their shipments in pristine condition, preventing shipping damage is a top concern. As Western Massachusetts’ most trusted shipping store, we have some insights we’d like to share with you on how to prevent your items from being damaged while they’re being shipped.
Shipping boxes are so important. A shipping box is your item’s first and often only line of defense against everything that can happen to it when it’s in the back of a delivery truck, in an airplane, or in a cargo container. You want a shipping box that’s strong and durable. We sell shipping boxes, but if you want to get your shipping boxes somewhere else, make sure they’re made of corrugated cardboard. Chipboard boxes, such as shoe boxes, just won’t cut it. The best shipping boxes are double-walled. This means they won’t collapse if a heavy box is placed on top of it. There’s also less chance your item will be damaged if the shipping box is dropped, knocked around, or kicked.
A shipping box needs to be large enough to contain your item and an adequate amount of packing materials. Packing materials cushion and protect your item. You want to minimize the amount of movement your item does inside of the shipping box. The more your item shift around during shipment, the greater the odds are that it will be damaged. There are many different types of packing materials. We keep a variety on hand so we can best suit our customers’ needs. If you’re not sure what type of packing material would best protect your item during shipment, ask! We’re happy to help.
