For sixty years, Odetta kept her parent’s upright piano in her front room. In that time, hundreds – maybe even thousands! – of children spent their time learning how to tickle the ivories and create lovely music from Odetta.
“I would not say I am a music teacher,” the octogenarian protested. “I enjoyed spending time with the children, and we would play music together. It was fun, always – and what children find fun, they want to do again. I do not say I taught children to play the piano. I say I had fun with them, and with music.”
Odetta’s influence has gone far, as the children who learned to play the piano from her have gone on to keep music in their own lives. “No one plays professionally,” Odetta said, “As far as I know. But many play piano in their church. I know one young lady has gone on to become a music teacher herself, in a school near here.” It was to this student that Odetta decided to give her piano. “I can not play anymore. My hands do not allow it. But she has many students, and not so many pianos. It was a simple decision.”
Deciding to give the piano away was simple, but moving the piano was not so easy. “You can not just throw a piano in the back of a truck and drive away with it,” Odetta said. There are many challenges associated with moving musical instruments in MA. “You have to make sure the piano is protected from the weather and the wind, or the sound will change.” Odetta smiled. “And the piano is not the lightest thing to move. There’s a reason it stayed where it was all this time!”
Choosing a MA moving company that specializes in small moves is the best way to move a piano in Boston. “The movers picked up the piano, wrapped and protected it for shipping, and carried it to their moving truck. In the truck, the piano was secure – I didn’t have to worry about it sliding all around and getting smashed. My MA moving company even delivered it to my student’s school’s loading dock at the time that was best for my student.” Odetta nodded her head. “If you have to move a piano in Boston, call a moving company specializing in small moves. It makes everything so easy!”
