Shipping Musical Instruments – The Do’s And Don’ts

September 15, 2021 by admin

Don’t: Use T-Shirts, crumpled up newspaper, or recycled air pillows as packing material when shipping musical instruments. The choice of packing material is critical in ensuring your musical instruments are safe while they are being transported. Packing materials are chosen to keep the instrument from shifting inside the box during transit. They’re also used to provide support to the instrument itself so undue structural stresses are not placed upon it while it’s in the box.

Do: Work with a Professional Shipping Service for Best Results

This is especially true if you’re shipping a cello, violin, or other string instrument. It’s also a good idea if you’re shipping very heavy instruments, like a piano or harpsichord. Working with a professional shipping company is very smart if you need to ship drums. All of these items are particularly vulnerable to being damaged if packaged incorrectly for shipping. Guitars are a very special case, as the travel case you use to tote the guitar around is not usually sufficient for shipping purposes. You may want a custom crate or at a minimum a new cardboard shipping box of the correct size. A professional shipping service will have everything you need on hand.

Don’t: Make Mistakes on the Paperwork

Correct addresses, contact phone numbers, and other information on shipping documentation is absolutely essential. Delivery services will bring packages where they’re told to bring them, so if you give them the wrong address and your musical instrument goes astray, there’s not much you can do about it. In much the same line, you want to be 100% sure you’re filling out all insurance paperwork correctly in case you need to make a claim later. The best pack and ship company in Boston can help you handle everything, so you can ship your instruments with peace of mind.

"In August, my 83-year-old father fell down the cellar stairs and broke his elbow. Following elbow replacement surgery in Boston he was transferred to skilled nursing care in West Bridgewater. Unfortunately, the injury left him unable to maintain his own household. My husband and I made the decision to move him to our home in California. My time frame was incredibly short - 11 days till departure via airplane to CA. I needed to pack and ship whatever items would be going to CA. We would not be moving the entire household - just several paintings, memorabilia, clothing and a large full keyboard electronic piano. After calling several moving companies that required large weight minimums to bid the job, I was referred to Joe Fell at Boston Pack and Ship.

Joe was absolutely wonderful. He calmly explained the shipping options available through Boston Pack and Ship and they could definitely handle the job. Joe helped me locate appropriately sized shipping boxes so that I could pack things up myself, thereby saving money. He also stayed in constant contact with me via phone and email, coaching me through the shipping process. We scheduled pickup nine days after my arrival in MA. Joe became an instant friend to me throughout this extremely stressful time. His caring nature made this difficult move a great deal easier. I am very grateful to have found this wonderful company. "

I used Boston Pack and Ship to send an antique piece of furniture from Boston to Sedona, AZ. I can't say enough about their service and the quality of the packing. Item arrived on the day they said it would and was in pristine condition. Easy to work with and great customer service. Highly recommend.

I hired Boston Pack and Ship to move two items from my storage unit in the Boston area to my home in Florida. Gene Sullivan was 110% responsive. He picked up the items on time, packed them expertly; and they arrived in perfect condition about ten days after pick up. I could not ask for better service. Five stars is not enough!

We at Casey Movers do not hesitate to refer our customers to this business for shipments we do not think we are best suited for (smaller inter-state shipments under 3,000lbs, etc). Have had great feedback from clients that have utilized this service. Thank you from all at Casey Movers for providing top notch service and have a great new year!
