Classes have been in session for a little over a week, which means your college student will soon be discovering the necessary things they forgot to bring to school with them. This could include school books, clothing or bedding, sports gear, or electronics such as computers or gaming systems. You will need to ship these things to them.
If you’re new at shipping packages to your college student, here are some tips to make sure everything goes smoothly.
#1: Check and Double Check the Mailing Address
Every educational institution has their own system for receiving and distributing mail to students. Check and double check to make sure you have the correct mailing address before sending packages. Do not assume that labeling your packages with your student’s name, dorm name and room number is sufficient to ensure correct delivery.
#2: Pack Items With Extra Care
College mail rooms can be brutal places. It is not unusual for packages to be dropped, have other packages set on top of them, or otherwise receive less than optimal handling. Protect the items you’re sending to your student by using new cardboard shipping boxes and sufficient amounts of protective packing material. If you don’t have these items available to you, your local pack and ship store can help.
#3: Let Your Student Know the Package is Coming & Prompt them to Pick it Up
Your pack and ship store will be able to hook you up with package tracking to document your shipment’s safe arrival at the school. However, once the package is at school, it’s often your student’s responsibility to go the final steps of visiting the mail center to receive it. It’s a good idea to have this happen promptly. Text reminders are often highly effective in this regard.
In addition to anything your student may have forgotten, your local pack and ship store can also help you ship birthday presents, care packages, get well soon supplies, and all of the other things they might need.
