“After we retired, we moved out to Boston to be closer to our kids and grandkids,” Marcy said. “I was willing to give up a very large home with lots of storage to make this happen. But what I’m not willing to give up is big holiday gatherings.”
Big holiday gatherings require lots of stuff. “Take Thanksgiving, for example,” Marcy explained. “We have the three kids, they have eight grandkids between them, and my husband’s mother always joins us. So everyone needs a chair. Everyone is going to need a plate to eat from, cups to drink from, silverware to use. I can’t keep a service for 14 in the house at all times.”
The Dedicated Storage Unit: Simplifies Holidays
“We’ve always had a storage unit, for the things that wouldn’t fit in the house or garage. But when we came to Boston, I had the idea of renting an additional storage unit specifically for all of our holiday needs. Everything goes in there -the Christmas tree and all the decorations, the inflatable Easter Bunny, all of the dishes and serving platters you really only use for big meals.” Marcy smiled. “It’s really convenient, because I can get to my things anytime I need them – like when we threw an impromptu bridal shower for my daughter-in-law’s best friend. At the same time, when I don’t need these things, I know they’re safe and secure.”

Christmas Trees, Wreaths, Lights, and Decorations
“I found it really made life easier to have all of our holiday things in one Boston storage unit,” Marcy said. “Now we can find everything without having to search through all of our stuff.”
