The Right & Wrong Way to Ship a Computer

May 20, 2019 by admin

So the other day a friend, knowing we’re in the shipping business, asked us a question that surprised us. They needed to ship a laptop, and wanted to know if a padded envelope would provide enough protection. When we answered that wasn’t really what we’d recommend, they shrugged and said, “But it’s got bubble wrap inside – it should be fine!”

Protect Your Computer – Be Smart About Shipping

A little bit of bubble wrap isn’t going to do much to protect the laptop computer that’s dropped on the floor, accidentally kicked up against a wall, or stacked in a pile of really heavy objects. Yet all of these things routinely happen as part of the shipping process, even though freight carriers do try to be careful.

As a Boston pack and ship company, we recommend double-boxing all computers for shipping purposes. If the computer’s original packaging from the manufacturer is still available, this should be used as it has been specifically engineered to protect the computer, with a strong second cardboard shipping box to provide an optimal level of protection.

A similar approach is used with tablets, smart phones, and other small electronics. Because electronics are very sensitive items, it’s important to package them in a way that protects them from moisture, electric shock, and drops. This means choosing the right cardboard shipping boxes as well as the proper packing materials.

Understanding Insurance & Tracking Options

Computers aren’t cheap. When you’ve spend a lot of money on your electronics, you want to be sure they arrive at their final destination in good condition and when you expect them to. That’s why the best Boston shipping companies help you understand your full range of insurance and tracking options. You’ll be able to choose the amount of coverage that makes sense for your computer & budget. Tracking provides tremendous peace of mind & helps you know where your computer is as it’s being shipped.

"Boston Pack and Ship shipped my mother’s cedar “hope” chest to my sister in Flagstaff, Arizona. The chest is 70 years old and a priceless family heirloom. As for Boston Pack and Ship’s handling of the chest, in the words of my sister, the job turned out ‘magnificently’. The delivery was ahead of projected schedule and the chest was packed with great care with exceptional “product safety” initiatives of Styrofoam, plastic, false bottoms cartons within the crate and above the crate; the legs of the chest were taped with great care…….truly product protection at its best!! Both my sister and I would refer Boston Pack and Ship without hesitation as the price, product safety, delivery and service are exceptional."
