“Running a small business is a constant balancing act,” Meredith said. “There are a million things to keep track of, and everything’s important.” The busy insurance professional was taken by surprise recently when the lease for the copier her agency was using came to an end. “I’d just assumed that they’d send somebody to come pick it up, but they said, “Oh, no. That’s your responsibility. Read your lease.”
After reviewing the paperwork, Meredith discovered that she had in fact agreed to return the copier to the leaseholder at the end of the agreement period. “That was easier said than done,” she laughed. “Have you ever tried to move a copier? It’s so heavy – I bet you that thing weighs 200 pounds if not even more.”
It didn’t take long to discover that her original plan, which involved borrowing a friend’s pickup truck and hand cart, was just not going to work. “When I was reading through the lease, I discovered that I’d be liable for any damage that occurred during the return process,” Meredith said. “And just our initial attempts to move the copier from where it was in the office to the back door revealed that we were not capable of moving this copier without something really bad happening.”
She asked her business mentor what to do. “That’s when I discovered that there are Boston moving companies that handle things like shipping copiers for you.” Meredith laughed. “Talk about a no-brainer! For a very reasonable price, a professional moving team comes to your office. They pack the copier up securely to make sure it’s not damaged in any way. And then they take it out, put it on their moving truck, and deliver it directly to the leasing company’s loading dock. Calling in the pros made returning our leased copier quick and simple.”
