“Being a long-distance caregiver is extremely challenging,” Margaret said. “Don’t ever let anyone tell you any different.” Margaret’s mother, Julianne, is in her nineties. “For a long time, we managed pretty well. There are some great resources in Boston, and I was able to arrange for aides to come in and be with Mom every day.”
An illness put Julianne in the hospital, and while she was there, her health deteriorated to such a point that the physicians felt it was no longer safe for her to live independently. “That meant Mom was discharged to a nursing home. Obviously we can’t maintain an apartment she’s no longer going to use, but how was I going to move all of her stuff out?” Margaret lives in Tennessee, a seventeen hour drive from her Mother’s former apartment. “The logistics were impossible.”
Finding the right Boston moving company can make all the difference in situations like this. “Obviously, trust is so important,” Margaret said. “Mom doesn’t have a lot, really, but what she has is important to her. Knowing I was working with an experienced, professional team of movers who would be careful with her furniture and other things was very important to me.” Julianne’s move was complicated by the fact that some of her possessions were going to the nursing home while others needed to be moved to a storage facility. “It took some time on the phone, but we got that all sorted out,” Margaret said. “You want to work with a Boston moving company who’s willing to provide that extra level of service,” she explained. “It may cost a little more, but it’s worth every penny!”
