“Personally, I find the whole idea liberating,” Marilyn said. The 78-year old Charlestown resident has recently decided to sell her home and move to a smaller place. “My children are grandparents now. They’re having the big gatherings at their place. I can visit them – and enjoy not having to worry about the expense of keeping this big house up.”
Marilyn downsized extensively before her move. “In a lifetime, you accumulate a lot of stuff. But it’s not all stuff you want, and it’s not all stuff you need. When I pared things down to only what I wanted and needed to keep, there really wasn’t so much.”
Many seniors find themselves in the same situation as Marilyn – planning a small move. If all of your things can fit comfortably in a studio apartment, you have what’s known in the industry as a small move. You won’t need a large moving truck, but you do have a few pieces of furniture and your personal possessions to move.
To save money on your small move, you’ll want to choose a moving company that doesn’t charge a minimum load fee. A minimum load fee is basically a charge moving company imposes on people who don’t use all of the space within a moving truck. We don’t think that’s right, which is why Boston Pack and Ship doesn’t charge a minimum load fee. There’s a reason we’re the favorite moving company of seniors, students, and single people on the go – anyone who has only a few things to move doesn’t want to pay extra fees & charges just to relocate!
