Don’t: Be Afraid to Double-Box
Even if you may your computer’s original packing materials, it’s a good best practice to double-box your computer for shipment. The outer box provides an extra layer of protection. New shipping boxes are stronger and sturdier than boxes which have been used previously. When determining how strong of a shipping box you need to ship a computer, you’ll want to pay attention to the ECT rating. ECT stands for edge crust test, and this number gives you an idea of how strong the shipping box is. At a minimum, you need an ECT rating of 32 or better for shipping computers; 44 is recommended.
