“After a lifetime of living in Boston, it’s time for me to retire to sunny Florida,” Rich said with a smile. “I’d tell you I was sad about the prospect of missing another snowy winter here, but I would be lying. My biggest challenge right now is figuring out how I’m going to distribute all of my stuff to my kids, grandkids, and friends.”
Downsizing at retirement is nothing new, but with today’s mobile lifestyle, the kids and grandkids who once upon a time could just drive across town to pick up a few hand me downs now live on the other side of the country. Rich has accumulated a lifetime’s worth of furniture and collectibles – items he’s enjoyed, but no longer needs.
“Rather than try to figure out how to move all this stuff on my own, I just called in a Boston packing and shipping company to do it for me,” he explained. “They know what stuff needs to be crated up, what can be shipped in boxes, and what types of items will need special handling.” Moving musical instruments, antique furniture, and electronics all require special packaging and expertise. “When you’re choosing a packing and shipping company, let them know what type of items you have, and ask what their experience is with that type of item,” Rich advises. “This is important. If you’re shipping a colonial side table, and it gets broken, you can’t just go out and get a replacement. That’s not how antiques work! Choose a company that has experience on getting the job done right!”
